Meet HRx President, Barbara Greenstein. Barbara has twenty-plus years experience in the training and development industry. Barbara was employed as a trainer and instructional designer for Burger King Corporation, Pizza Hut, Inc., and Electronic Data Systems (EDS) for the first thirteen years of her career.

Barbara started HRx in 1995 because of her passion to help companies work smarter with less resources. She felt she could do much more as an outside consultant than an internal consultant and began the performance consultancy in Herndon, VA. The company relocated to San Diego, CA in 1996.

Barbara has a Master's degree in Human Resource Development and graduate certificates in Instructional Design and Total Quality Management (TQM) from Marymount University. She completed her undergraduate work in Consumer Affairs and Management at Florida International University.

Ms. Greenstein is an adjunct professor for the Masters Program in Human Resources at Chapman University in San Diego, CA. She teaches the HR646 (Training and Development), HR696 (Performance Improvement Strategies) and HR616 (Consulting) classes for the program. Barbara is also a Certified Performance Technologist (CPT), a certification awarded through the International Society of Performance Improvement and the American Society for Training and Development. Barbara received her certification in May of 2003.

Barbara (second from left, accepting an ASTD award) is a Board Member and Past President (2000) for the San Diego Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) and is an active member of the Int'l Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI).

Ms. Greenstein is an award recipient from the ASTD San Diego chapter for the following awards:
  • WillaMae M. Heitman Award for exceptional dedication and service, awarded from the San Diego Chapter of ASTD 2003.
  • ASTD Volunteer-Staff Partnership Award, awarded from ASTD headquarters for coordination efforts of 200 volunteers at the ASTD International Conference and Exposition held 2003 in San Diego, CA.
  • Presidential Recognition Award, 2002
  • Volunteer of the Year, 2001
Meet Linda Barner, Organizational & Leadership Development

Linda Barner brings over 15 years experience consulting in the areas of training, organizational and leadership development, executive coaching, and human resource management. She has worked with a wide range of industries including mortgage and financial services, retail, education, government, manufacturing and service organizations. Linda provides design and implementation assistance to clients as they work though changes such as acquisitions, restructurings, growth and continuous improvement projects. A skilled trainer and facilitator, she uses her understanding of individuals, teams and organizations to help businesses and leaders to be more successful. Her strength lies in designing and delivering completely customized approaches for clients, whether it's individual, team or organization-wide projects to improve overall effectiveness.

Linda's educational background includes a Master of Science in Organization Development from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Baldwin-Wallace College. Linda is also certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) by the Society for Human Resource Management, and she is a trained mediator, having received her training through the San Diego Mediation Center. She is a member of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD), the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), and a past board member of the San Diego ASTD and San Diego Organization Development Network.

Meet Karen A. Garman, Ed.D., CPT, Professional Development Training Consultant and Medical Educator

Karen has twenty years of senior and executive level leadership positions in curriculum development, evaluation and administration at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey, University of Southern California, University of California San Diego and Kaiser Permanente. She is currently an Associate Professor at the University of California San Diego and the University of Southern California.

Since 2002, Karen has been specializing in competency development, needs assessment, instructional design, small group facilitation, performance assessment and leadership development. Major clients include: County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, Western University Health Sciences, San Diego State University Foundation, UCSD National Center for Leadership in Academic Medicine, and World Health Organization.

Meet Margo S. Miller, Personal & Team Development

Margo's areas of expertise are personal and team development, strategic planning and conflict management. She has over twenty-five years of experience in three organizational environments: nonprofit social services; higher education; and, municipal government. She is a skilled group facilitator and executive coach, and has guided many organizations through major change projects.

Margo holds a Master's Degree in Administration, a Certificate of Advanced Management Studies and maintains advanced certification in the use of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator. She is a faculty member of the Temperament Research Institute of Huntington Beach, CA.

Meet Stephen D. Murphy, M.S., SPHR, Strategic Planning & Diversity

Steve Murphy specializes in individual and organizational performance management and improvement strategies, including training and development, executive coaching, managing diversity, strategic planning and human resources consulting. Steve has over 25 years of human resources, organizational development, leadership and management development, team development, customer service, diversity awareness and management, harassment and discrimination issues, strategic planning facilitation, and training and coaching experience. He specializes in helping companies effectively analyze performance issues and implement individual and organizational performance improvement plans.

He has designed, developed, and facilitated hundreds of classes, seminars and workshops on a variety of topics in a range of industries. He is known for his unique, mesmerizing and entertaining delivery and facilitation style, making each engagement a fun and memorable learning experience and placing him in high-demand as a speaker and trainer on the conference circuit. His workshops consistently receive marks of "outstanding."

Steve holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems and a Master of Science degree in Human Resources Management (with an emphasis in Training and Development) from Chapman University and is "certified-for-life" as a Senior Professional in Human Resources Management (SPHR) by the Human Resource Certification Institute.

Meet Diane Reed, Instructional Designer

Diane Reed is an instructional designer and platform trainer with experience in both professional and technical skills training.

Ms. Reed has extensive instructional design experience implementing current adult educational theory and the Instructional Systems Design (ISD) process. She excels in verbal and written communication and problem solving skills. She has designed and trained within the fields of education, manufacturing, and technology. Her client list includes: Glencoe/McGraw Hill Publishing, The Lightspan Partnership, Peregrine Systems, San Diego City Schools, San Diego County, Scantron Corporation, and Teal Electronics.

Ms. Reed has an M.A., degree in Educational Technology from SDSU, San Diego, CA and a B.A. in Mathematics and Education from Providence College, Providence, RI. Her technology experience includes application of Microsoft Office Suite, FrameMaker, FrontPage and proprietary databases, as well as being a CA certified secondary mathematics teacher.

Meet Janice Trantham, Performance Consulting and Coaching

With over twenty years of performance improvement and training background, Janice has worked as a practitioner using the Human Performance Improvement Model both as an internal and external consultant. Her consulting experience spans the nonprofit, private, and government sectors including National Steel and Shipbuilding and San Diego City Schools.

Meet Patricia Locati, Graphic Designer

Patricia Locati is qualified with over fourteen years experience in providing graphic design services for a variety of clientele, including working with Nintendo of America, Sears, Wal-Mart, Target and the Anthony Robbins Companies.

Her projects range from simple postcards or wine labels to complex Annual Reports. This includes design and development through production.

Patricia works on both Mac and PC platforms and is proficient in QuarkXPress, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, PageMaker, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Dreamweaver and Flash.

Meet Terry Feike, Web Designer & Marketing Consultant

Terry Feike is a web designer, with specialization in content development, marketing consulting, and writing. She has a solid understanding of the marketing principles that contribute to profitability, and is knowledgeable in all aspects of web development including design, copy, content design, graphics, typography, html, and integration of multimedia components.

With over 15 years management and marketing experience in technology, software development, project management, client relations, and business development, Terry draws from a rich background of experience. Her across-the-board knowledge of business and management is valuable in advising clients, and in producing high-impact, lead-generating web sites or intranet programs.

Terry has a B.A. in English from California State University, San Jose. In addition, she holds professional certifications in Direct Marketing and Multimedia Technology.

Meet Joe Trantham, 2D & 3D Animator

Joe Trantham is a 2D and 3D animator with 11 years experience including the following:
